Spring 2015 Forecast
A beautiful Welsh Poppy in full bloom growing in my garden in April.

This long-term guess-cast for the Spring of 2015 was created on Saturday 28th February 2015 concerning the Otter Valley and surrounded low-lying hinterland areas of south-east Devon such as Exmouth, Honiton and over to Axminster in the far east.

Well, here it is! The Otter Valley Weather's delve into fantasy forecasting.....

Last year's Spring was a warm one but rather wet overall with average sunshine. I expect this Spring to be a little less warm but still above the long term average and drier and sunnier than last year. Short-lived cold and wet spells are likely at times but becoming less frequent after mid-April and the potential for blocking situations to develop with hot, humid and thundery weather becoming more common later, especially from May onwards.

    Forecast Actual
March:

A unsettled start with a mixture of cold and warmer days but real Spring warmth is not likely to break through until just after mid-month when more settled, anticyclonic weather is expected to dominate.

Mean Minimum = 4°C (+0.0°C)
Mean Maximum = 12°C (+0.5°C)
Total Monthly Sun = 130 hrs (105%)
Total Monthly Rain = 50 mm (85%)

April:

Fine, dry and sunny weather should dominate but there are likely to be rather short-lived incursions of cold and wet weather from the Atlantic at times.

Mean Minimum = 5°C (+0.0°C)
Mean Maximum = 15°C (+1.0°C)
Total Monthly Sun = 200 hrs (110%)
Total Monthly Rain = 40 mm (75%)

May:

Rather more unsettled overall than April with warm, humid and often thundery weather especially later in the month. There is a potential for very hot weather during the second half of the month as blocking situations develop.

Mean Minimum = 9°C (+0.2°C)
Mean Maximum = 18°C (+1.5°C)
Total Monthly Sun = 220 hrs (105%)
Total Monthly Rain = 60 mm (105%)

The Otter Valley Summer Fantasy-Forecast will appear here around the end of May 2015

In summary: slightly above average temperature and sunshine and around normal rainfall but with a likelihood of occasional brief cold and wet spells. These becoming less common as the Spring progresses. A little less warm and slightly drier than Spring 2014 but sunnier.
